What Is a Sinus Lift?
In this video, Dr. Karen Becerra Penagos explains how doctors rebuild upper-jaw bone for implants, and what patients should know before a sinus lift becomes part of the plan.
A sinus lift is a procedure used when a patient has lost teeth in the upper jaw, and there is not enough bone to place a dental implant safely. Over time, after teeth are lost, the sinus space can expand downward, leaving too little bone between the mouth and the sinus.
When this happens, we perform a surgical procedure to gently lift the sinus membrane and place bone graft material in that area. This provides sufficient bone height and support for an implant to be placed properly and securely. The goal of a sinus lift is to rebuild the foundation needed for a successful dental implant in the upper jaw.
