What Does a Full-Mouth Reconstruction Involve?
In this video, Dr. Karen Becerra-Penagos explains how full-mouth reconstruction planning starts, and why modern digital tools give patients clearer answers and more reliable outcomes than older approaches.
For a full-mouth reconstruction, the process begins with a detailed digital evaluation. We scan the patient to clearly understand the bone structure in the upper jaw (maxilla) and lower jaw (mandible). We also carefully assess the position of important structures, such as nerves, to determine exactly how much space is available for implant placement.
From there, we create a mock-up of the reconstruction. This allows us to see how the bite will look and function before moving forward. Using modern tools, such as 3D imaging and 3D printing, we can test and refine the plan to make sure it works well and feels comfortable for the patient.
Once the temporary phase is complete and we confirm that the patient can eat, speak, and function comfortably, we move on to the final restorations. We offer a range of material options, including various types of porcelain, and we focus on making the process as smooth as possible. Our goal is for patients to be happy with both the look and function of their new smile.
Ultimately, the goal of full mouth reconstruction is to restore normal function while keeping the result as natural-looking as possible. Ideally, no one should be able to tell that the mouth has been reconstructed.
Our team takes a lot of pride in this work. Dr. Myrna, myself, and all of the doctors here put in the time and care needed to deliver the best possible results, because patient satisfaction is our top priority.
