Denture Alternatives [Video Explanation] Free Implant Consultation

At Healthy Habit Dental Care, we believe every patient deserves a smile they can use confidently and wear proudly. But unfortunately, traditional dentures don’t always allow for that. These custom prosthetics are meant to fit the contours of your mouth, but often lose their fit over time. And when struggling with a loose denture, everyday tasks become a challenge! At our office in Temecula, CA, we encourage any patient with a loose denture to find alternatives that stay secure in their mouth. Using dental implants, we anchor your smile in place and provide you with a solution to tooth loss that lasts.

Why Do Dentures Come Loose?

Your natural smile was held in place by the roots of your teeth, which were embedded in your jaw. And every time you bit down or chewed food, these roots would stimulate the bone to keep it healthy and full. But after tooth loss, you lose stimulation, which can cause your jaw to deteriorate over time.

As your jawbone shrinks, your traditional denture will no longer fit perfectly in your mouth, causing it to shift around on your gums. Loose dentures cause a variety of issues, including:

  • Problems chewing certain foods, disrupting your everyday diet
  • Difficulty speaking, causing your speech to slur
  • Gum irritation, leading to painful denture sores
  • Increased risk of infection, as food becomes trapped underneath your loose prosthetic

If you’re struggling with the consequences of a loose denture, it’s time to look for alternatives. At Healthy Habit Dental Care, we offer a solution that both stimulates your jaw to keep it healthy and restores your smile: dental implants!

Using Implant Denture Alternatives

Dental implants are titanium screws that we insert into your jawbone. Over time, these biocompatible implants will integrate with your jaw, providing a strong foundation for your denture to rely on.

At Healthy Habit Dental Care, we often use mini dental implants to stabilize a denture. These small titanium posts are much simpler to place, but just as effective as their traditional counterparts.

Our implant-retained prosthetics include:

Snap-in Dentures

Denture Alternatives [Video Explanation] | Secure Your Smile With Dental ImplantsWhen looking for removable dentures with more support, we recommend snap-in dentures. These prosthetics, sometimes called overdentures, have a base similar to a traditional denture. But instead of a bulky bottom base and a large dental plate on top that covers your palate, these prosthetics are sleeker and rely on 4 to 8 mini implants to secure.

When you want to take them out, simply “snap” them off your implants with ease! Their removability offers a convenient way to clean your denture and your gums, while still maintaining stability when your denture is in place.

Fix-on-Six Dentures

This denture doesn’t use the same base as a snap-in denture. Rather, it features a sleek design of a full arch of teeth, with little to no gum base to support them. These teeth are then secured to 6 to 10 mini implants, which keep the restoration stable while you talk and eat without issue.

During routine dental visits, we will remove your denture for routine maintenance. Otherwise, it stays in place in your mouth, resembling your natural teeth.

Permanent Roundhouse Bridges

Typically, this restoration requires even less of a gum base. Instead, it secures directly to 10 to 12 mini implants.

Thanks to the support the implants provide, the denture stays secure in your mouth and allows you to chew as your natural teeth would. Also, you never remove a permanent roundhouse bridge. It’s cemented in place and cleaned just like your natural smile.

Transforming Your Denture Into an Implant Denture

If you’re struggling with a loose denture, it’s possible to convert it into a snap-in denture! But this will largely depend on the quality of your existing denture.

To transform your denture, it needs a large enough base to accommodate dental implants. Additionally, the prosthetic must be in good condition. During your free consultation, we will assess your denture and determine whether you’re eligible for the transformation.

If so, we’ll create housings in your denture base that are big enough to fit over your implants. Then, inside the housings, we place rubber O-rings, which allow the prosthetic to “snap” on and off your implants. Finally, we’ll add mini implants around your jawbone, strategically placed to distribute the pressure of your bite evenly.

And if your denture isn’t suitable for this transformation, we will craft a new prosthetic that is custom-crafted to the contours of your mouth, with housings and O-rings built in to it.
