The Dental Crown Process Explained
In this video, Dr. Karen Bacerra Penagos explains what happens when a tooth needs a crown, and how modern digital scanning makes the process more precise and easier for patients.
When a patient needs a crown, the process usually starts with numbing the area to keep you comfortable. We remove any decay and carefully shape the tooth to create enough space for the crown to fit properly.
In the past, this required taking traditional impressions with bulky materials in the mouth. Today, we use a digital scanner to take a precise image of the tooth. That digital impression is sent to the dental lab, where your custom crown is made. The lab typically returns the crown within one to two weeks.
Once the crown is ready, you return to the office, and we securely cement it in place with a strong dental cement. We check the fit and bite to make sure everything feels natural, so you leave feeling comfortable and back to normal.
