Electrosurgical Unit (ESU): What Is it, How Does it Work, and What Are the Benefits?

In this video, Dr. Karen Becerra-Penagos explains how electrosurgery can make certain gum procedures cleaner, faster, and more comfortable than patients expect.

In some cases, we use electrosurgery technology in our office to gently shape the gum tissue. This technology uses radio frequency to make precise cuts in the gum, which offers several advantages for the patient.

One of the main benefits is reduced bleeding, which helps us see the area more clearly and allows us to take accurate scans the same day. When a small amount of gum tissue needs adjustment, this method creates very clean cuts and is typically painless.

Using this technology also allows us to complete procedures, including extractions and follow-up care, more efficiently. The result is a faster recovery, less discomfort, and fewer complications for the patient.
