How Is 3D Technology Used for Orthodontic Treatment?

In this video, Dr. Karen Becerra-Penagos explains how 3D scanning and clear aligner treatment can help straighten teeth, and how patients can know if aligners are the right choice for their smile.

In our office, we use 3D technology in many ways, including for orthodontic treatment with clear aligners. The process starts with a digital scan of your mouth. This scanner captures detailed images of both your teeth and gums, which we can immediately view on a computer.

Using those images, specialized software helps create a proposed treatment plan that shows how your teeth can move over time. The doctor carefully reviews and adjusts that plan to make sure it meets your needs and goals. Once approved, a series of custom aligners is created. These aligners are typically changed every one to two weeks and gradually guide your teeth into their final position.

This approach is very predictable and convenient. The aligners are removable, which makes it easier to eat, brush, and floss compared to traditional braces. Because oral hygiene is easier to maintain, there is often a lower risk of cavities. Many patients also appreciate that aligners are discreet and do not involve metal brackets or wires.

That said, not every case is best treated with aligners. Some orthodontic concerns are better managed with traditional braces, and we offer those options as well. During your consultation, we determine which approach will deliver the best results for you.
